June (Ğ1) — money without banks

What is June?

June – written Ğ1 – is a free currency that has existed since 8 March 2017. It is not issued by any bank or state, but by its members themselves. At CrowdWare we believe it could become our new currency.

Money without banks

Euros come into existence when banks grant loans. Whoever gets the new money first has an advantage – and for every euro, someone somewhere pays interest.

With June there is no bank in between. New money is created directly with the people: every member receives the same share every day, the Universal Dividend (UD). At the moment that is 12.17 Ğ1 per day, roughly 365 Ğ1 per month (as of September 2026). Nobody gets more, nobody gets less – whether they have been there from the start or joined yesterday. The money supply grows by about 10 % per year, and the dividend grows with it. This keeps the currency fairly distributed across generations.

The idea comes from the Relative Theory of Money (Théorie Relative de la Monnaie) by Stéphane Laborde.

It feels like a basic income

The Universal Dividend is essentially an unconditional basic income, built into the money itself: every day a little more arrives – no application, no authority, nothing expected in return. Nobody has to hand it out, and nobody can take it away.

You can't live on it yet. What the dividend is worth depends on how many people accept June – for bread, for vegetables, for work, for websites. That is exactly why we accept it. Every offer in June makes every member's dividend a little more valuable.

A web of trust

To make sure nobody can collect the dividend several times, there is no central authority checking IDs. Instead, members vouch for each other: whoever receives at least five certifications from existing members who know them personally becomes a member and receives the daily dividend from then on. This web of trust currently has around 5,800 members who receive the dividend (as of September 2026). But anyone can use June, even without membership – there are already more than 50,000 Ğ1 accounts. The community lives mainly in France, Spain and Belgium – and is slowly growing in German-speaking countries too.

June runs on its own free blockchain called Duniter. It is open source like our software, needs no energy-hungry mining and has practically no fees.

What you can pay us for in June

How we set the price

There is no official exchange rate between the euro and June – and that is intentional. In the June community it has become common to set prices at roughly 1 : 1 to the euro. We follow this. An hour of work therefore costs just under 11 Universal Dividends, about a week and a half of dividend.

How do I get June?

1. Install a wallet app, for example Ğecko (smartphone) or Cesium² (browser/desktop), and create an account.
2. That alone lets you receive and spend June – for example by offering something of your own in exchange for June.
3. If you want to become a member and receive the daily dividend, get to know people from the June community, for example at one of the many Ğmarchés (June markets) or meetups. They can certify you once they know you.
